Frequently asked questions

01

The product

What is Aviate-AR?

Software for augmented reality glasses that shows airspace, airports, traffic and flight data on the world in front of you, so you can keep your eyes outside the cockpit.

Do I need special glasses?

Yes, you need compatible AR glasses. Aviate-AR runs on standalone glasses that are bright enough for a sunlit cockpit and can track your head precisely. Compatibility page is on the way!

Does it replace my EFB?

No. You keep planning and navigating with your EFB. Aviate-AR takes the most important information from it and puts it in your line of sight.

Which EFBs does it work with?

Any! We do not need an EFB to operate, but we will be adding connectors to the most common to give you additional features.

When can I get it?

We are flight-testing the prototype now. Join the waitlist to hear first about early access.

How much will it cost?

We plan a free HUD tier and a paid plan with situational awareness and traffic features. Final pricing will be confirmed at launch. Flight schools will have per-seat pricing.

Flying with Aviate-AR

Is it legal to use in flight?

Aviate-AR is not certified avionics; it is a portable aid, like a tablet EFB. In the US, private (Part 91) pilots may generally use portable electronic devices when the pilot in command has determined they will not interfere with the aircraft’s navigation or communication systems (14 CFR 91.21). Rules differ elsewhere, and your aircraft owner, club or flight school may have its own. You are responsible for checking what applies to you.

Can I use it for IFR flight?

No. Aviate-AR is designed for private VFR flight. It is not a primary instrument and must not be used for instrument navigation.

Will it distract me?

We design every screen around the minimum information you need, placed where you are already looking. You choose what is shown and can turn overlays off at any time. If anything is distracting you, take the glasses off and fly.

Does it work in bright sunlight?

We only support glasses with displays bright enough to read against a sunlit windscreen, and we test in real cockpit conditions.

How long does the battery last?

That depends on the glasses. Many current models last around one to two hours, so for longer flights plan on external power.

Do I still need to look for traffic?

Yes, always. Traffic shown in Aviate-AR is incomplete, because not every aircraft transmits its position. See and avoid still applies.

03

Data and privacy

Where does the airspace data come from?

From established aeronautical data sources. Always check current official charts and NOTAMs before you fly.

Do you sell my flight data?

No. We use flight data to run the app and, in de-identified form, to improve it. Read our Privacy Policy for details.

Does it need mobile signal in the air?

Our aim is for everything you need for a flight to be loaded before take-off, so the app does not depend on a mobile connection in flight. We will confirm the details at launch.

04

Accounts and billing

Can I cancel any time?

Yes. You keep access until the end of the period you have paid for. See our Terms of Service for subscriptions and refunds.

I run a flight school. Can we use it?

Yes. We plan per-seat pricing for schools. Email us to join the early programme.

I’m an EFB provider. Can we integrate?

We would love to talk. Email us to discuss licensing and integration.
